Thanks very much. Wonder who the grandchilden belong to?
I think you would need to trace both daughters forward to see if the children are with them in later censuses. Any ideas if either of them married, and if so to whom?
if the mother is Eliza Mountford, then you would think the father of the children shouldn't be a Mountford as well, unless she had children with a cousin etc ;)

Very interesting,. I was going to order Eliza'a birth cert as I have to go the long way round to solve a mystery. I Don't know of any Charles in the family...yet!!
what I mean is the birth of the Charles Mountford that someone found on the IGI has parents as Eliza Mountford and Charles Mountford, if Eliza isnt married and the Charles has Mountford as his surname, then is he a relative she had a relationship with.

Well, I never. Hunting in stuff I'd kept and forgotten about, I found from ages ago a 81 census for Eliza. She was by now married and had her mother living with them.
She married Stephen Gill, 1864. No mention of her first 2 children either. Plenty of new ones!! Louisa had died 1866, but no sign of Charles.
