  • Gedcom - earliest dates?

Just doing a search through the gedcom for one of OH's names and although it didn't give me any results for that particular name it did igve me a name that included those letters - one of the names there was for a birth of 1068 - has anyone else got that far back?
    I don't think I stand a chance with the names I have

The earliest I can go is 1470, my 12X Great Grandfather.

That's pretty good Wendy, OH goes back to 1540's and I can get to 1640's

That one was easy to follow as he was born on the Island and everything was found at the records office. Everyone stayed in the one place all the way down the line.

Trish sure it isn't a mistake for 1868, lol!

I am only back to late 1700s with certainty. After that things are less clear as there are lots of folk in the same villages with the same names, so can't be sure which is who!

Why not ask the person, Trish? I'm sure my tree is littered with typos.

They have several people from that sort of date, so probably not a typo

They are jolly lucky then. I can't with certainty go back very far into 18th century and have only one definite ancestor as far back as 1723.

That sounds about the same as me, Nell. I have one line that goes back to a marriage just before 1700, but most other lines stop a lot nearer to 1800!

I've got some back to the 1400s, but they are simply transcriptions of a long-dead rellie's paper tree. I've got them in my FTM tree simply as a way of recording them.

I have a couple of people born around 1650-1660, but nothing earlier. Most lines don't go back further than the mid-18th century.
