  • Can anyone read this place of birth please?

As you're all in the mood for looking Places of Birth how about this one.

It's been transcribed as "Phistle Hill".
In 1861 her place of birth is clearly written as Elgar, Norfolk but I can't find that on any map or Genuki or Google search.....

It looks like "Thistle Hill", Sue.

I'll go and google for it.

I wondered that but it's nothing like the other capital "T"'s ....Ooh I've just found a Norfolk Museum website that lists a Thistle Hill Rd in Hilgay. Maybe Elgar was a misheard Hilgay!

I've seen Hilgay down as Elgay, so that's a distinct possibility, Sue. And there aren't many hills in Norfolk!

Using Thistle Hill as 'keywords' for 1881 ... 6 families from Hilgay ...
possibly renamed as Rose Hill now?

Oh that's clever Jammy Dodger! I've never thought of doing that! Thankyou and thanks too, to Phoenix

What a shame that Hilgay doesn't seem to be on the IGI!

There doesn't appear to be any local places on IGI
