  • Help please wireless security

I have just installed a dlink router and netgear wireless usb adapter onto my desktop (Vista).

Every 30 minutes Trend micro tells me that a computer is trying to access and asks what I want to do??

I have not the slightest idea!

I also have a laptop (XP with the same security) running from this wireless connection.

We are very rural so is this "attack" from nearby or not please.

I have no idea about wireless, it just seemed a good idea at the time as there is not a phone line near the computer.

    Help please

Does it tell you what program is trying to access what?

That is what I am wondering-but
            a. It is not on at the moment and
            b. It DOES have Trend anti virus.

I am sure my days were longer before computers.

OH suggests "This is your router trying to gain access to your PC - possibly because somebody else is causing it to do so.

Check the encryption settings on your wireless network. If there aren't any get some. At least change your wireless network password."

Your router will be using the IP address of 192.168.1.0
It will issue users wanting access via itself incremental IP addresses.
So 192.168.1.1 is the PC you were using to create the screen dumps.
The MAC Address is unique to your PC's network card, so write it down.
Then connect your second PC and look at the users again.
                  Write that address down.
Now you have the two unique addresses that each of your PCs use.

So, of you ever doubt a connection, quickly look to check the MAC address.

Finally back online-the router gave up working-got another router and that works with Vista. Only problem now is that the router is a Netgear and doesn't seem to like the laptop and XP.
I'm also not 100% sure that the Netgear usb adapter is that happy with Vista. I have to unplug the usb and replace it each time before it will connect to the internet after the computer has been "hibernating"

Pen and paper looks very appealing at the moment.

Have solved the other problem though-it was my computer and once I "trusted" it no more problems :D
