  • New site for old Australian newspapers

This Australian newspaper site, which has just been posted on GR, looks very promising indeed:

    NLA Australian Newspapers beta

The OCR program doesn't produce very good transcriptions, but the original images can be viewed.

Libby, if you're around, there's a report of the Clarke v Dunsford divorce case - do you already have the details?

David is one of mine, well, he's the illiegitimate son of one of an uncle

Joseph was eventually a shipbuilder, not yet worked out the link.

They're all from Newcastle so there's probably a link somewhere but the records in the 1700s don't name mothers and as they're all in shipping it's impossible to tell who is who

I found a 1917 article about the ships built for the Melbourne gold rush. The OCR was not very good though. I could read the original article OK.

Not from that site, Mary. Off to have a look.

If you've opened another can of worms, you might like to take a long holiday somewhere. I know Merry will.

Wow, there are a lot of entries for "shipping arrivals / departures" mentioning my relative who was a ship's captain! It would take me hours to look at them all!
