Just thought this might help someone, if you haven't already seen it

Newspaper Homepage -(Richard Heaton's newspaper collection)

It covers England (mostly Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, London, Lancashire Middlesex, Surrey, Worcestershire, and Wiltshire) and Ireland and claims to have over 100,000 names.

    And it's free!

Wierd. I typed in a few family surnames and found a match for Robert Chown. He was my gt x 3 grandfather and lived in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Sadly the hit wasn't him, but a reliable road builder in Wiltshire.

I thought all the Chowns were living along the Chilterns! You live and learn.

I'll forgive you this time, Mary :D:D:D

Going to turn off the PC now as there is a big thunderstorm starting, and last time we had one, the house was struck by lightening - that was a real palaver :(

Thank you for the link - just had a quick look and found something interesting. I so wish they'd given the first names of the men concerned.

Quote "A poor man named Ridgley, of Bradenham, in the employ of Mr.Parslow, had one of his legs broken in a most dreadful manner on Monday week, whilst felling some trees in Little Marlow"

My 3xg grandfather Solomon Parslow was a timber merchant at the time of this report and I've also got several Ridgleys from Bradenham in my tree who were sawyers.
