  • manchester workhouse look ups?

    Just wondering if anyone has access to the Manchester workhouse records??
    If so, could someone look the name Nolan between the years 1906 and 1918

    It doesn't look as if everything has survived for that period:

    Records
    Manchester Archives and Local Studies, Central Library, St Peter's Square, Manchester M2 5PD. The few surviving holdings include: Workhouse admissions and discharges (1841-5); Creed registers (1881-1914, with gaps); Lists of children sent to Swinton Industrial School (1846-64); etc.
    Lancashire Record Office, Bow Lane, Preston, Lancashire, PR1 2RE. Swinton Industrial School admissions and discharges (1846-8, 1850-1934); indexes (1848-1935); etc.

      What were the creed registers, Merry?? Maybe I could find something in these?

        A creed register tells you the religion and denomination of the people in the workhouse. (I don't know if it would tell you anything else?)
