  • Ratcliffe Hulse problem

After waiting what seemed a lifetime i finally recieved the birth cert for my GG Grandmother Mary Ellen Ratcliffe born 2/5/1900.

It states that her father was George Ratcliffe an Ironworker and her mother was Mary Ellen Hulse.

Now underneath her mothers name it says deceased, so i assume she died whilst giving birth to Mary.

I cannot find a marriage for Ratcliffe/Hulse or a suitable death for Mary.

    Any help would be great.

                Wow, thankyou Merry

Thats defo them as on Mary Ellen's marriage cert (George's daughter) George is down as a Furnaceman.

Ive just ordered George and Mary Hulse's marriage cert to confirm but im 99% sure thats them.

Thankyou soooooo much and thankyou Raven for the death and marriage you found.

Herbert Hulse seems to be single in 1881 ( listed as Herbert Haulse) so that might be why there's no birth reg for Mary Ellen Hulse!

There's a possible marriage the following year where one bride is Ann Davies.

                    This is 1891:

Maybe you might need to try for a birth cert of one of the later children, to sort out what was happening around 1881?

I was just thinking i should order a later birth cert.

Im sort of hoping her last name isnt Davies

lol Tha's what I though, but.........

1881....I think it is! (or Davis!) lol

At least that Jacob in the house may help with going back? (obviously all this will need confirming with certs!)

I can't seem to see Mary Ellen (George R's wife) on the 1901 census. She's not with him, is she? Only her parents etc. At what address was Mary Ellen b June 1901 born?

At the moment ive gone cert crazy, each time i find someone i order the cert.

Getting them all in before my daughter is born.

Mary Ellen was born 2/5/1900 and George's wife Mary Ellen Hulse was down as deceased on the birth cert so i think she died in child birth.

My son is 9 now and is quite interested in his tree (and has been for about 5 years). It's such a nightmare remembering how many "greats" everyone is just for yourself, never mind not getting confused when relating the tree to him and also to my mum!

Atleast it will give me someone in the family that MIGHT be intrested in the tree.
