  • Morbo Gutteris??

    I've just been checking out some burials on the Cornwall OPC database and have found..

    Mary James buried 7 Jul 1784 St Hilary age 66
    register notes: Morbo Gutteris

    I'm assuming this is latin? But can anyone tell me what it means please?

    Erm....something like disease of the throat or sickness of the throat?

    Possibly something rather nasty if this was remarked on when most causes of death went unrecorded. :o

      I too thought it must be something horrid/unusual, Merry, for it to be mentioned. But not having seen the actual parish register entry (yet) I wondered if it had been mistranscribed.

      I haven't found anything by 'googling' or on latin/english translation sites.

        Merry is correct-
        Morbis = Disease
        Gutteris = Throat

            Not sure any disease is "pleasant"!
