  • 1841 woman occupation

    Hello

I have a lady on the 1841 census aged 50 with what looks like Chairwoman as her occupation.

Chairman One of two persons who carried a sedan chair

Is it likely that she did this?
Her husband james was a Labourer.

Sorry I haven't been back to you but yes I think its Charwoman.

          A cleaning lady.

Some people still use the term Char and Charwoman.

It's surprising how often this question comes up. Isn't the term "charwoman" used any more for a cleaning lady? It was very common when I was younger.
