    Historical directories?

    Historical Directories

Have you found him on the 1841 census?

      I'll try that, thanks.

He's not with his wife and son in 1841, they are with her parents, and can't find him in free BMD deaths and not on any census.

That's what I get when I google his name!!

Yes, as far as I know, only the one son, Joseph William Brooks, born about 1831.

Joseph was christened in St James, Westminster, 2 October 1808 and married Harriet France in St George's, Hanover Square, 23 October 1830.

I realise this isn't helping to find JBB, but when I looked on the 1841 I thought the son was the 10 year-old with someone called George France (silversmith) aged 25, but you said the son was with his mother (on Rootsweb!), so is that the wrong one?

Ah yes, good point - he's either with his uncle or with his mother.
1841 census Shop boy, age 10, with his uncle George France, Silversmith, age 25, at Riders Court, St Anne, Soho, Westminster.
1851 census Joseph Brookes, Pawnbroker's assistant, unmarried, age 20, born Holborn, Middlesex, 2 Albion Place, Islington. Living in a house with other pawnbroker's assistants and a pawnbroker's foreman who was head of the house (to whom his relationship was servant).

Got to go soon, but any more ideas gratefully received.

PS hay fever's got to me, can't stop sneezing ....

Perhaps my great-great-great-great-grandad Robert said to the enumerator something like there's me, my wife Sarah, daughter and grandson .....

There again, maybe William is a different relative ....

                      atchoo ..... Night night.
