  • Blind leading the blind....

I have been trying, (without much success) to track Sarah Jaques (nee Robinson).

this is what I have so far..

Sarah Robertson. bapt 27 jan 1821. @ Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. marries John Wenden Jaques 24 April 1850 @ Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.

This is the ref for 1851 cens - Class: HO107; Piece: 2091; Folio: 280; Page: 21 or hyperlink below.

    - Ancestry.co.uk

can anyone see them afterwards please? or offer any likely suggestions?

Sarah's mother Sarah dies in 1860 in Somerby and her other daughter Harriet registers the death.

I cannot find Sarah and John Jaques after the 51.. this lot will be the death of me..

    thanks for reading

    Hi Julie

I have a similar situation after the 1881 census, I am putting it down to emigration or alien abduction

        RG 09/1096/31/13 ??

Could this be John, listed as widowed - living with parents Robert and Sarah?

Have you looked at other spellings. My grandmother was a Jacques and her names was spelt Jaques and Jakes.

            BTW my Jacques from Leicester.

can you post a link Elaine please? I have a devil of a job getting the cens refs to work.. and I cant see an easy way to do that on the new search facility :(

I think this might be him in 1871 with his new wifey....

There is a Private Member tree on Ancestry for John Wenden Jaques b1818 (Leics) - is it yours - if not might be worth contacting.

Agree the 1851 census gives Essex as place of birth.

It appears that John Jaques married Charlotte Cole, as there is a Gentry Beer and Caroline together on the 1871.

Interestingly Charlotte Jaques looks as if she is on the 1871 census living in Ardleigh which is where John Wenden Jaques says he was born on one of the previous census.

So is the marriage in 1863 for a John Wenden Jaques a different person or did he marry again bigamously?

Charlotte Jaques (formerly Cole) appears to be alive and kicking on the 1871, as does John Wenden Jaques with a new wife Elizabeth.
