  • Where is she?

Alice Murray married William Frizel 13 Apr 1879 Camberwell. The cert gives her father as George Murray, steward. The witnesses are Frederick Lockyer and M Lockyer.

In 1881 (RG11/131/56 page 32) her age is recorded as 25 and born St Giles Peckham Surrey

In 1891 (RG12 / 225 / 126 Page 9) her age is 38, born Whitechapel and she has a brother William Murray in the household , aged 25 born Whitechapel

In 1901 (RG.13 / 389 / 148 page 29) her age is 42 born Mile End and has a 5 year old nephew William Murray aged 5 born Bermondsey

I can not find Alice in 1861 or 1871 at all, nor her brother in 1871.

    Help please! :-)

Traced Martha forward...she gets progressively younger....30, 38, 46! Birth place is Bow and then London, Middlesex, twice :(

Can't find her earlier yet. Obviously she could be a cousin rather than sibling. (Or they might be the wrong people altogether, though the husband doed go back to Frederick (from Frank) in later censuses.

There are three stewards on the 1881. One is b 1823 and is in the workhouse (from memory). A widower. He looked likely, but I can't find him earlier.

Sorry - was reading another thread

No, Harry's mum, I don't know anything about George and can't find anything:-)

Merry, thank you - she's quite tempting. There is a Martha Ann Murray in Croydon in 1871 aged 16 but again, I can't trace her back....

I just want to thank everyone again. Martha Ann Murray's father was George Murray, mariner and Alice gets married from the Lockyers' address so they are sisters. It looks very like the Dinah on the 1861 might be Martha Ann.
