  • volume control - Windows vista

Just switched on my laptop. Playing podcast in widows media - I haven't got a volume icon anymore it seems to have vanished.

How can I find it and how can I adjust volume using function keys - or any other method?

I have the same problem Nell - mine disappears!

    Have just googled.
Click on start and then right click on Programs and select properties.
click on notification area tab and uncheck the box to hide inactive icons.

I've just done this and my sound icon has reappeared - along with some others! :(

There is probably a different way to do it!

Thank you for your customary quick response.

When I rightclick on Programs I just get a list of programs!

        Update

I've done something else - click on control panel >hardware & sound > sound >adjust volume settings.
You then get volume slide controls for windows media player, speakers etc. I've done that, but I would like to get the icon back as its much simpler!

Don't know why it disappeared. I've had this laptop since Xmas and used the player for podcasts and CDs with no problems till now.

I don't have Vista but on XP there is a little arrow to the left of the icons. If you click on this all inactive icons will appear.

Nell, there is a little arrow just before the word All programs - right click on the arrow. Its a bit critical by the looks of it - you have to be spot on or else the list of programs open up.

Yea! Thanks Elaine, problem sorted. I always thought the arrow was just for show!

Thank you again, sorry for delay in response I was out.
