  • Further back than 1841 and 1851

Hello. I am trying to sort something out for a family friend.

His family are here in 1841: Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 583; Book: 6; Civil Parish: Manchester; County: Lancashire; Enumeration District: 9; Folio: 21; Page: 34; Line: 10; GSU roll: 438735.

and here in 1851: Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 2221; Folio: 302; Page: 13; GSU roll: 87230-87231.

He is descended from Joseph, so no more info is needed about him. He wants to know how to get further back, but I am stumped at the moment. I think I have brain freeze lol. He has Joseph's birth certificate and Maria's maiden name was Wood.

    Thanks,

    Tom.

I think the best bet would be for him to go and search in the parish registers for a marriage, but he also needs to try and locate James' death but the problem is there are quite a few of them.

If their youngest son is Edward and he is two in 1851 that means he was born c1849. So the death would be between 1848 and 1851. There is one in Manchester and two in Salford. Not sure which registration district it is for Hulme? and that is just for the spelling Davis. For Davies there are many more.

I don't think Lancs BMD covers those registration districts though.

You could try the Lancs OPC, but I don't think they've done Hulme yet:
