  • Help finding death please

    Hello everybody

I posted up about finding the Jones family the other day, well ive put that to one side for now untill i locate the death of Elizabeth Hodson nee Jones.

Elizabeth was born c1835 in Bangor, Carnarvonshire Wales.

She married William Hodson on the 13th July 1857 in Great Boughton Chester, Cheshire.

I have her on the 1871 census

    Class: RG10; Piece: 3733; Folio: 52; Page: 3;

Now in 1881 there is a William and Elizabeth living in Charles street and William's occupation is correct as he was a Nail maker, however the ages are way out and so are both there birth places.

    Class: RG11; Piece: 3555; Folio: 33; Page: 9

And in 1891 the same couple but William's occupation is now Cab driver which would be fine as William's brother John was a Cab driver untill his death in 1902.
And the address is now Trafford street which is where William died in 1899.

    Class: RG12; Piece: 2865; Folio 130; Page 48

But i just cant see how it can be them as the ages and places of birth are way out

How way out? How many years and how distant the places?

I just had a look on the overleigh cemetery search site and William Hodson died in 1899 aged 69 which matches the correct age he should be and i have him on the 1891 census in the same address as his death addy but his age is not the same.

So i think i have Elizabeths death in trafford street in 1926 but again the age is way out.

The ages are about 12 years out and Elizabeths birth place is now Montgoeryshire instead of Carnarvonshire and Williams is Chester instead of lancs.

But they are living in the correct address.

Whilst I would advise caution, I do have instances of people's ages being way out, either on a census or on a cert. Husband has one distant aunt who ages 3 years in 3 censuses! Her correct age recorded on death cert though, poor thing!

Birthplaces also vary - I can understand vagueness about a place if the person moved shortly after birth, or errors like saying Paddington instead of Marylebone where there's no great distance - but again I have people who change their county of birth, most bizarre!

If you can't find any other candidates, I think you ought to record these with a query listing your doubts.
