  • BT Yahoo! Mail -is this genuine?

I have had two emails from "BT Total Broadband Team"

They say that they are upgrading the security of my BT Yahoo! Mail account to help prevent identity fraud and spam. ( I do have an account)

These enhancements will apparently protect me from 'spoofing' - "when people use alternate addresses to disguise an email's real sender, possibly to commit fraud"

The message then invites me to follow a link, and confirm that each of my e-mail addresses is genuine.

Apparently if I don't do this, some of my outgoing e-mails may be blocked.

The e-mail looks genuine, but I am a bit suspicious.

    Any ideas anyone, please?

I would have thought BT Broadband would knwo what your e-mail addys are!!!!!

My son say that he is suspicious of the line

Apparently if I don't do this, some of my outgoing e-mails may be blocked

He has never seen this on a genuine message. They are trying to scare you!

If in doubt contact BT Broadband.

      Thanks Wendy -

I think you must be right.

Also you would think that if this was a genuine upgrade, there might be some mention of this included with the phone bill.

      I'll try contacting BT

      Thanks again

        Muggins,

I have a BT Broadband account and I have not had this mail, it sounds very very suspicious to me. I would ignore it or better still forward it to BT for confirmation ,

From the BT website - not sure if this is what your email is about.

Don't click on the link, because it may take you to a plausible-looking but fake BT site.

If anyone ever gets such a message don't click on the link.
Visit your ISP's website and see if they mention the upgrade or security fix there.
If it is not mentioned on the service providers site it is bound to be spam.
                  Cheers

Not only that, but some will try to install spyware/viruses etc.

Have you tried the BThelp? That e-mail seems suspicious to me.

Open your Mail & then click "My account" find "contact us" & e-mail them. I have found they respond very quickly.
