  • Jones family fro Bangor

    Hello everyone

I have an Elizabeth Jones who married my William Hodson in 1857 in chester.

Her father is down as William Jones and is a Sailor.

Elizabeth was born in Carnavoshire (mispelt) Bangor Wales.

On the 1871 wales census i have found a Elizabeth Hodson with her father William, mother Margaret, brother William and daughter Ann.

Father is a Boatsman and brother is a mariner.

    Class: RG10; Piece: 5728; Folio: 83; Page: 33

However i have found my William Hodson with wife Elizabeth living in chester on the 1871 england census.

    Class: RG10; Piece: 3733; Folio: 52; Page: 3

Can anybody see her with parents prior to her marriage and does anybody think that the Elizabeth on the Wales 1871 census is just a coincidence?

Have you found Elizabeth or any of her children in 1881? I was wondering if dau Ann (who was born in Wales on the 1871) was with her?

I found William, but he's by himself!

I agree that Elizabeth seems to be in two places in 1871. In 1881 I found:

RG11; Piece: 3819; Folio: 53; Page: 41; (WH by himself)

But he's too old really, I've just realised. He has the right birthplace and says married, though no family in the house.

Ahh, thats not my William as by then im sure he was living in chester.

So you agree that the Elizabeth in Wales looks to be the same lady?

              Looks to be!

I have found their son (William) who was 12 in 1871 as 22 in 1881 still in Chester. Can't find the other yet!

                I thought so aswell.

Just looked back at my notes and i didnt have William and Elizabeth on the 1871 or 1881 census.

Just shows what you can miss.

I do have William as dying in 1899 but ive not found Elizabeth's death.

Now i followed this family who lived at 53 fountain street bangor and they looked very promising.

In 1871 their daughter Elizabeth was married to a Hodson.

So i went back to 1861 and Elizabeth was there as unmarried and with her parents.
However the Elizabeth i have married my Hodson in 1857.

                    Piece: 4351; Folio: 61; Page: 32

So now im back to square 1 trying to find my Jones family.
Can somebody please suggest something please?

Who were the witnesses at William Hodson and Elizabeth Jones's wedding?

This will sound funny but the witnesses were Elizabeth James and James James.

Bother, I was hoping one might be Elizabeth's married sister, but obviously not!
