  • Is Emily Jane Spooner related to Michael Smith?

I have just discovered that my parents share a grave with two other people!:(

Michael Smith aged 56 years was buried in Earlham Rd, Norwich Cemetery on 13th August 1876.

Emily Jane Spooner aged 14 months was buried in the same grave on 17th October 1877.

Was it usual to put someone else into a grave so soon after the first burial, unless they were related?

I've had a look for them both, but can't find anything other than birth and death registrations.

I'm curious now to see who they were. Can anyone help me find out?:(

    Wendy.

Could Emily Jane Spooner be Michael Smiths grandaughter?

On 1871 census he has a daughter Eliza with him aged 19.

In 1872 there is a marriage on freebmd for an Eliza Smith to either James Barnard or Arthur Charles Spooner in Norwich

This could be the Spooners in 1881. A gap for Emily Jane and mum right birthplace and age to be Eliza Smith.

Thanks Pam and Merry. Will look into that.

I did wonder if Emily Jane was his grandaughter. Unusual to put an unrelated person in a grave just one year after burial.

I have had a look and found the families mentioned.

Have found that Michael Smith remarried in 1866 and he married a Mary Gray who was the widow of William Dunthorne. Now my half sister has Dunthorne's from Norwich in her tree! Wouldn't it be strange if she found that this family is related (probably only by marriage)in some way to her!!!
