  • I don't really need to know, but...

I'm just trying to tie up some loose ends in a side branch (Gx3-uncle, if my arithmetic is correct!) of my niece's tree, so this is absolutely not worth devoting much energy to!

Can anyone spot him in 1841 and 1851?

    Nathaniel Joseph LYONS:
    b 1818-9 Newmarket, Cambs [1861, 1881] - s of Joseph LYONS [NL]
    1841 ???
m 1847q1 City of London 2-169 Hannah COHEN
1851 ??? not with family (HO107/1568 fo259 p28: 5 Queens Head Rd, St Mary Newington)
1861RG9/345fo14p23: age 42, optician; 3 Church Rd, Newington

        Thanks.

I've just read the (census) notes of someone who's concentrated on this bit of the tree, and they hadn't found him, so I don't think there's any disgrace if we can't!

        Thanks for trying.

Christine - I've found someone who SHOULDN'T be him but it might be worth a look!

          1851

Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 2224; Folio: 161; Page: 24; GSU roll: 87233.

There just seem to be a few coincidences!
          Lyons
          Newbridge Cambridgeshire
          Picture dealer
I can't actually read the first name as the record is "damaged".

Thank you. I see what you mean - the first name is Lewis, I think?

I'll go and have another look at my info...

It almost looks like Daniel. Nathaniel - Daniel??

                    Seems very odd!

By the way, I don't think it was uncommon for people to serve a prison sentence away from their area. I found a Hampshire bod up in Strangeways prison, although the crime was committed in Hampshire.

I was seriously tempted by Lewis, but I found this man (plus family) in Macclesfield in 1871:
                      RG10; Piece: 3672; Folio: 18; Page: 29

I think I shall have to let him go - if only as a candidate for Nathaniel Joseph. I suspect he does join on somewhere!
