  • Sarah Ann who?

    Hi

I have two queries concerning this lady.

I have Sarah Ann Beeforth born 1854 Middlesex, mother Elizabeth Beeforth.
For her marriage she says father Henry. On census she is down as a daughter. Elizabeth Beeforth married Henry Gurney 1856.

How safe is it to assume that Henry is her father - would a baptism help clarify? If Sarah was baptised that is.

My second q is, I can't find her on the 1881 census as she is not with her family

Any input regarding this lady much appreciated.

    regards

Do you have her birth certificate? That should give her parents names, or if she was illigitimate it would just show her mother

    EDIT

Sorry just re-read your post, what surname did she marry under - Beeforth or Gurney

She is down as Sarah Gurney with Henry and Elizabeth as parents.

When did she get married and under what name?

Looks like her mother was unmarried when she had Sarah and later married Henry Gurney and she took on his name, whether he was her father or not we don't know.

Will look for her in 1881 for you.

there is a chance Henry was her father, but no guarantee, as she took his name it would have made sence to name him on her marriage cert.

              I have an example

Margaret Ward born 1894 in the work house - Illigitimate
her mother married in 1897 to Arthur Rate
              Margaret Rate married in 1915
she didn't find out until the 1950s/60s that she was not his daughter

Still checking 1881, did she give an occupation when she married in 1885?

How sad, but for the times that's what they did, kept things quiet.

I don't know if a baptism would help, if she was baptised and was HEnry daughter, then they may have ut him down as father.

I have other births like this, but I do know they were the children as the parents just married later.

some vicars did make little notes in the baptism registers, but most would just refer to the child being illigitimate. I have come accross a couple of entries where both parents are named but not married.

It might be worth a look,

I can't find her on 1891 or 1901. Who did she marry? Was it Ernest Frank Davison or Thomas Morris.?

Could she possible be living with her future husband in 1881.

                                    Sorry Treesa

I was obviously looking at the wrong marriage. I will try again.

No idea about PR for London area. Is it worth googling?

There is on the left hand side a Contact the enquiry team, they are really helpful and might be able to help.
