  • Find My Past - WW1 deaths, etc

Following the announcement by Find My Past that WW1 deaths & memorial scrolls are now available .....
has anyone succeeded in getting past the 'Due to high demand we cannot connect you to the database at this time' page?

I tried until midnight & again from 6.00am - but no joy.

Do you know what they mean by:

      WW1 deaths & memorial scrolls
      ???

Or was that what you were trying to find out?!!

Well I can get to it but cannot view the scroll.

The death details are very similar to what you would get on the CWGC site - the info is taken from the "Soldiers Died in the Great War" database.

To view the scroll it says it will cost 50 units, presumably if you are on pay per view. It then takes you to a page offering the Explorer subscription or pay per view credits.

I am on the Explorer sub, but when I try to view the scroll it takes me to the subscribe page! I would hope this is a temporary glitch in the system. :(

Is it perhaps the same as on the CWGC site? There is a sort of scroll on there isn't there? If it is who on earth in their right mind would pay for it?

Not sure if this will work if not a subscriber to FMP

This is an example which they give for the scroll

So, you save the example, alter the name etc on it, and then print it off?!!

50 units?? How much is that? Sounds extortionately expensive

A lot of money when compared with other things that are available on those sites.

SDGW will often tell you where someone enlisted and/or lived, which you wouldn't get from CWG.

Just seen on FMP, in the small print, that the Explorer subscription does not cover Memorial Scrolls.
So that means that even if you have a subscription to the site you will have to buy additional pay per view units to download a scroll.

Yes Elaine, even though they advertise that the Explorer sub enables you to view ALL their records :(
