Looks like it begins with an 'L' to me. Its the same as the first letter of labourer in the occupation column.

It seems to end in ...ton. I've been through all the places on the PoW in Staffordshire and can't find one to fit so perhaps its a litlle place.

Don't agree with the transcription of Newton.

I think it starts with an A - it doesn't match the L of Hand Loom Weaver a couple of lines down.

Like Anne, have been through the Genuki parish listings and cannot see anything that matches.

cant look in further census I believe he dies in 1851 aug :(

thing is as well, his surname,

I have it as Greyman or Greenough Granough Greenaugh... take your pick!

even the bapts are entered as Greyman or Greenough..

Just looked on family search and there is a George Greenough bap 1775 Clifton Campville Staffs. I have looked on Streetmaps and next to it is Haunton.

                      Could that be it??

Not 100% sure but a good guess.

I think it begins with an A. There is also another tall stroke before the T. Is it an L?

When you find out where he was born, the place will be blindingly obvious!

Having seen Hempstead written as Armston (now there's a suggestion!) I can believe any amount of mangling in mis-pronouncing, mis-hearing or mis-transcribing. Are there any other males of similar age whose birthplaces you can find?
