(What was I looking for)
Another mystery solved! .
just googling for my 8xgt grandfather's notorious brother for Merry, when I stumbled across a website of the surname which I'd not previously come across (variant spelling I think)
anyway, I digress (as usual)
When my 5xgt grandfather died in 1836, he had 8 surviving daughters, so the name died out in this line. But in his will he made a bequest of £50, his watch & gun & wearing apparel, to "my natural son John". It was news to me that he'd ever had a son, but thanks to this website I've finally found a reference to the likely candidate. The BT of the baptism is on the IGI, giving father's name & parish.
My chap married 28 July 1803, and the first child of this marriage was born on 11 May 1804.
His "natural son" was born on 4 April 1804.
Do you think he was the result of a final fling before his nuptials :D
So don't forget
