  • Ooh, triplets!

    Births Dec 1870
    Arnold Betsy Birmingham 6d 153
    Arnold Ellen Birmingham 6d 153
    Arnold John Birmingham 6d 153

They're on the 1871 census, aged 6 months, but only Betsy and Ellen were still alive in 1881 - John died in 1871.

Still, not bad for such an early date.

Pretty exhausting for mum. Did you notice how old she was?

She was 30 when they were born, and already had 3 older children. Two more were born after the triplets. Poor woman. She was working as a laundress in 1891 at the age of 52, with 4 children still at home. No occupation listed for her husband, who was 56.

            Yes, poor thing.

I thought it was my Elizabeth Mallett, who was born in Rugeley, Staffs., in 1842, but it turns out to be another Elizabeth Mallett, born in Bromsgrove, Worcs., in 1839.

To be fair to the husband he may have been ill in 1891, because Elizabeth was widowed by 1901.
