  • Help in Searching for an Irish birth c1812

Have family names but no idea of county in Ireland.

    Where do I begin?

Where did you get the information about their birthplace?

It's going to be difficult without a county unless they have a very unusual name.

      Oh Chris

Welcome to the problem of only knowing they were from Ireland

Unless you can determine whereabouts in Ireland they might have come from I'm afraid you might be stuck.

Have you tried the IGI to see whether they've transcribed the baptism or if you have an usual name or one that relates to only one or two places - then you might have a chance.

I've loads of lines going back but not a hope in **** of finding them unless I get a miracle.

Understand Irish land divisions, townland, parish, barony in Ireland.. county, province, townland, administrative region - explains how Ireland is broken up into parishes, townships etc

Search the archives | Public Record Office of Northern Ireland - National Archives of Ireland

Emerald Ancestors - Northern Ireland Genealogy & Ulster Ancestry - specialises in Northern Ireland

A lot of records have now been put online I can't find the link at the minute - but I haven't been successful in finding anyone.

also Griffiths might be useful if they were farmers or tenants.

Very few Catholic baptisms exist from that far back for any parish, may be more lucky if they were Protestants, I think some of their baptisms registers can go right back to the late 1600's.
