  • Gallipoli Death

I have been told that one of my Irish Gran's brothers, Edward (aka Ned) Brady was killed in Gallopoli in WW1.

Which Cemetery would his memorial likely to be on? He was born in Dublin sometime between 1873-c.1901.

There are several Edward Bradys on the CWGC but I don't know if any could be him. Have no idea if he was married or not either. Father's name Michael.

Thank you for that, Little Nell.

What a huge site..it will take me some time to check that out as you can't search by just a name.

Some wonderful information a photographs sent in by their descendants.

Were the family still in Dublin in 1911? Have you looked for them in the census to get an idea of when he was born?

Oh what a pity, I have a cousin who has only recently come back from Gallipoli and the Helles memorial.

I'm sure he would have taken a pic for you

              The CWGC lists 15 E* Brady's.

              One in Turkey.

One in Egypt. I'm not sure if injured soldiers were taken to Egypt from Gallipoli.

              This may help.

I too have a relative remembered on the Helles Memorial and I'm absolutely certain that nobody from the family has visited the site. Does your cousin have a photo that they would be prepared to put on here?

I can feel a new project coming on.....

                  Hi Bo

The only ones he sent to me were of the very tiny part of the memorial where his uncle is commemorated and of him and his wife there. I know he has visited other memorials in Europe over the years, he belongs to some society that makes these trips.

I'll contact him and see what he has in his collection of photos. Won't get an immediate reply as he is in Canada.

                  Good idea though!

                  Edit
                  Just emailed him.

                    Thanks for your replies.

I've checked the 1911 Dublin City census and he's not there. His parents and 2 siblings are at home, but I can't find Edward. If he was married he could be living outside of the city...or elsewhere.

Distant relative says that he died in 1915 but nobody seems to have any solid info. If only I had asked my Gran about her siblings when she was alive..don't think my late Mum knew much about her mother's family either.

L..where did you find the WW1 deaths?
Do they give any ages at the time of death or spouses or parents?

We have no idea when exactly he was born. 18 children born alive altogether and only 11 living in 1911 and I know of the 11 that survived including Edward, plus Thomas who died sometime in 1917/18 in Dublin, due to a leg injury that went septic whilst he was working for his father.

The only info is as shown above, you'll have to send off to the GRO for the cert for all other details
