  • Trying to find the connection

    Hello everyone

I got really lucky today and found that my GG Grandparents came over from Ireland with their families and married here.
My GG Grandad Martin Kelly married Bridget Moran in 1854 in Chester.
Now i purchased their marriage cert today and obtained the info i needed to go back a wee bit more.
I found Bridget on the 1851 england census with her siblings but no parents living in a lodging house in steven street in great boughton chester.

    Class: HO107; Piece: 2171; Folio: 499; Page: 22;

Now on the marriage cert the witnesses were John Gough and Margaret Gibbons.

Now i found on cheshire bmd a marriage between a Peter Moran and a Margaret Gibbons in 1851.

However it states that the Morans are down as inlaws in the lodging house but i cant work out which Moran is married to any of the surnames.

Can somebody please see if they can see a likely marriage?

    Many thanks

    Danny

I did see a marriage between a Patrick McGough and a Gibbon but i was after the 1851 census and would have been to late.

Also if Margaret Gibbons married Peter Moran in 1851 then why in 1854 has the registrar put her down as Margaret Gibbons and not Margaret Moran?

Well, in theory (lol) siblings, Peter, Bridget and Thomas Moran are sibling-in-laws to John McGough. So, in theory (again!) they should be the siblings of his wife, Mary.

Now on the marriage cert the witnesses were John Gough and Margaret Gibbons.

Now i found on cheshire bmd a marriage between a Peter Moran and a Margaret Gibbons in 1851.
The witness, Margaret Gibbons, shouldn't be Peter Moran's wife though, as she would have been Mrs Moran by the time of the 1854 wedding.

This looks hopeful for the 1851 householders:

          Marriages Dec 1849
Cannon Margaret Boughton Gr. 19 75
Cannon Mary Boughton Gr. 19 75
Jones Edwin Gt. Boughton 19 75
          MCDONAGH Michael G Boughton 19 75
          McGough John Gt Boughton 19 75 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
          Moran Mary Gt Boughton 19 75 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
          Reily Peter G'Boughton 19 75

So were looking at these two being the connection?

            McGough John Gt Boughton 19 75 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
            Moran Mary Gt Boughton 19 75 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Also the marriage between Peter Moran and Margaret Gibbons looks to be to close for comfort. ill have to obtain the marriage cert as to see if the father is the same.

Yes, Mary being the sister of Peter, Bridget and Thomas Moran.

Have you tried looking at later censuses before you start ordering!!

I had a quick look at the next census but i couldnt see a Peter Moran with wife Margaret.

Also on the cheshire bmd it dosent show the marriage between John and Mary.
Did you see that on ancestry?

On the 1851 census i posted there were some other Moran's or on closer inspection they may have been Morgan's.

No, I couldn't see a Peter and Margaret either.

Does Cheshire BMD cover Great Boughton? If it does, then try looking for one name and then the other, in case they didn't marry each other.

Did you see that on ancestry?
I got the entry from FreeBMD.

It is there, his name is indexed as MCGOLIGH John!! (Goodness knows if it's the right wedding!) All four couples from that GRO page are on Cheshire BMD.

I reckon i should obtain the marriage cert to double check.

I reckon it probably is the right one though.

                            Thankyou Merry

There are some Moorans (how it's transcribed in 1861!) living at Hawarden, but not Peter or Margaret.
