I've just done a quick new file on ftm and I think it reckons that there is no direct relationship between you, just by marriage.

That's right. Her great-aunt (her father's aunt) is your great-aunt by marriage.

So her great-aunt is married to your great-uncle?

Any children that couple had will be your first cousins once removed and her first cousins once removed too, but you are not related to each other. Any grandchildren the couple had wll be second cousins to you and to your contact.

Lisa, I've got a contact through GR with an equally tenuous link - but he's been an abolute gold-mine of info, and has also linked me to one of his links - so two 'links' away from me - and she's been brilliant, too.

So just because there's no blood relationship doesn't mean you wont be able to share info that's useful.

One on side of my family I have 3 contacts, only one of whom is related to me, though they are all related to each other. I added nearly a hundred people to my tree through those contacts.

I am happy with the contact and we are sharing information. I was trying to work out for my benefit what the connection was.

I have had lots of not very good contacts and some very good ones from GR and that includes 2 sisters and several cousins and some other distant relations.

but still dont open my tree :D:D
