    I am looking for Arthur Thomas Sims on the census 1851-1881.

    He was registered 1850 Chelsea
    1874 Married Louisa Burman Medway
    1883 A widower married Sarah Holden in Manchester Occupation Sergeant in the Royal Marines Father Joseph a Master of ? Union (Icouldn't read it on the PR)
    1891 He is a caretaker in London
    1901 back in Manchester where he is a steward of a conservative club

                    If he was in the marines, he might have been out of the country in 1871.

                    and, I hesitate to ask, but could this be him:

                    "Gorton. Order of filiation and maintenance of bastard child of Arthur Thomas Sims of Newton Heath and Martha Alice Wray singlewoman QSP/4518/6 1897 12 May"
                    Newton Heath is in Manchester.

                              I just put "Arthur Thomas Sims" into search box on National Archives site:

                              The National Archives of the United Kingdom

                              This doesn't just search Nat Archives but also the A2A - Access to Archives | Home Access to ARchives site, which acts as a big index to records in archives throughout England.

                              I wasn't expecting to find it, I was thinking if he was a marine there might be some records at TNA about his service.
