    Found this in 1891 index on Ancestry:

    Newlin Kotvis
    [Reuben Robins]

    Fortunately someone has corrected it, but would you think of N as an obvious substitute for R?

      It's only obvious its Reuben (and Robins!) if you already know what its meant to say. I think the whole page is really difficult to decipher.

      Glad it isn't the chap I'm looking for, anyway, though since I can't find him (see separate thread) I guess he must be badly mangled too.

          I was doing some research re Sark (see next magazine - probably!). It's surprising how many birth places 'Salop' are transcribed as 'Sark'!!!!

                I've got a Joan Bailey that is transcribed as John Bailey, trying to find Joan's marriage was a work of art in the end. I still can't get the GRO to change it ,so I have given up
