  • I'm letting you loose on my Linksons

    Now be gentle with them..........

Unobservant me spotted on 1891 census last night a child I'd not seen before.

Emma Linkson is down as daughter of Arthur Linkson and Louisa Ann (nee Osborne)

    RG12; Piece: 301; Folio 40; Page 33

I think her birth is registered in 1884 as Linkinson
(popular mis-spelling on this part of the family)

I'm unable to find her in 1901

Her father and 3 of her siblings are here:

    RG13; Piece: 310; Folio: 167; Page: 14

    (William, Annie and John)

Her mother is here shacked up with the man she eventually ran off to Canada with:

    RG13; Piece: 335; Folio: 13; Page: 18

with George Philip Linkson, youngest child, born 1899
both enumerated as Cort (fancy man's name)

I'm also missing the son Robert Henry Linkson born 1897 in Mile End.

    Cheers m'dears

          Yes, got those thanks Libby.

The boys had a double wedding and the two couples were witnesses for each other.

Emily died the following year in childbirth aged only 19.

Robert Henry remarried and moved out to Canada to join his mum who'd gone there with her fella and some of the children.

And thence came all the Canadian Linkson clan.

There are a few in Australia.....not sure where they came from, but happy to look if you find anything that points south.

                Libby

The Australians are the biggest mystery of all. I'm sure I've asked for help on here before with them.

They all descend from George William Linkson who died in 1884 aged 54 and recorded as "a colonist of 39 years".

His father is supposedly James Linkson and he said he was born England
(on marriage cert I think. I've not seen it. It was from one of the Australian Linksons who I've lost contact with)

George William had 6 children and was a councillor in Burra Burra. There's a street there named Linkson Street in honour of him.

So he should have been born c1830 and arrived in Australia c1845.

There is no George William Linkson in England that I'm aware of, and I'm pretty sure I have most of them as they all descend from one man and I've worked on it with another very good researcher and we've double/triple checked each others findings.

There are two Williams that lived long enough to emigrate around the right date, one born 1824 and one born 1825.

One of these has a father named James, he marries Ann Veazey in 1847 and promptly disappears.

The other one marries here in 1866 and was having children from 1862 - 1866

The mysterious George William doesn't marry until he gets to Australia when he says he's a bachelor.

I don't think we'll ever know for certain as there are too many discrepancies with the dates etc to convince me they're the same person

I'm grateful for any input on it though or other sources which might tell me more about him.

The census says Islington and the birth registered as Linkinson is in Islington district also.

No Linksons that fir on the AVRI.

There is a death in 1930 for a William Linkson, father George, mother Catherine at Broken Hill.

Must have been another Linkson family there as there's also a death for Delia in 1908 Father James...mother Mary A
1927 death for Mary A (possibly Delia's mother) Father Michael, mother Bridget.

                            Libby

I need to hunt out my emails where all the connections were explained to me.

I was led to believe it was all one family, everyone descended from the 6 children of George William, but I'll need to double check that.

                            Thanks for your help
