  • William Norman 1851

I'm having a bit of difficulty with OH's G GF and his parents.

William Norman b23/05/1851 Prickwillow, Ely, Cambs. Can't find him on the 61.

1871 he is with wife Sally and daughters, Black Horse Grove, Littleport.

    1881 ditto

1887-8 he is in Balderton where last child is born

2 October 1890 he dies in Balderton.

William's parents are Henry and Mary nee Hipwell/Hipple. I think I have them in 1851 in Ely. According to that census Henry was born in Easwel Suffolk but I can't find any such place.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Rose

I wonder if father Henry died between 1851 and 1861 and mother Mary remarried - therefore listed under a different name in 1861

    possible death
    Dec 1853
    Henry Norman
    Ely 3b 337

will see if I can see a possible remarriage for Mary.

Struggling with this Rosie. I wonder if there is some 1861 missing.

Slightly too old, but I wondered about this bap for dad:

        HENRY NORMAN Birth:
Christening: 04 OCT 1818 Eriswell, Suffolk
        Parents:
        Father: HUGH NORMAN
        Mother: MARY
Messages: Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record.

Or maybe Mary died between the censuses too? There are two Mary Normans in Ely in 1854. This may be why I'm having difficulty finding William in 61. can't find john on 1861 (he was with Henry and Mary in 51) - 1855 death Ely

Thomas (ditto above 1851) could be in Soham in 61.

I've come out of the page now, but wasn't Henry a railway labourer? Maybe the family were on the move?

Merry, yes I suppose Eriswell could be 'easwell'.

If Henry died in 53 that would be another very short life. William was only 39. Sadly it was liver cancer not some dramatic gory murder!

good point Merry! I never thought of that.

apologies if I don't get back again tonight. *whispers: had a general anaesthetic and a couple of abdominal stiches yesterday and 'hunching over' is uncomfortable*

Rosie - there is someone on Ancestry who has a private tree with both Henry Norman b1818 Eriswell and John Norman b1848 Ely, so looks as if Merry might be on the right track.

... and hope you feel better soon!

thanks, feeling much better *tries to sit up straight!*.

I have sent a message to the owner of that tree.

(I see that the railway line goes straight through Prickwillow.)
