  • Wretched woman! Who were her parents?

Marriage: Sep 1854 Shoreditch 1c 339 Elizabeth Marsden & John Robins

    1861 RG9/241 Folio: 25 Page: 43 6 Joy Street, Hoxton Elizabeth Robins abt 1838 Marylebone, Middlesex,Wife
1871 RG10/475 Folio: 68 Page: 11/12 33 Austen Street, Bethnal Green Elizabeth Robins abt 1833 St Luke, Middlesex, Wife
1881 RG11/410 Folio: 134 Page: 10 33 Austin Street Bethnal Green Elizabeth Robins abt 1833 Soho, Middlesex, Head 48 widow
    1891
18 Ravenscroft Street, Bethnal Green Elizabeth Robins 58 wid. Soho
    1901
20 Ravenscroft Street, Bethnal Green Elizabeth Robins abt 1833 Soho,

This is my problem. Marsden was the maiden name of John Robins senior's mother, so I wondered if he and Elizabeth were related before they married. BUT Elizabeth can't decide whether she was born Marylebone, Soho or St. Luke's. I think I found her in 1851:

1851 Shoreditch Elizabeth Marsden 18 abt 1833 Marylebone, Middlesex, Visitor milliner

But I can't see her in 1841 and there's no baptism on familysearch

hmmm -- any idea what church?

Were the Robins' from Shoreditch and used one in particular? A street address would be handy to search for on the 1851 and parish records at this time would hopefully have it.

And a witness - that would be nice too.

1851 the address is Napier street, no number listed (and none on previous page, its folded so it isn't seen) but next household is no. 68 Napier Street.

I will check likely churches when I am next at LMA.

        Thanks for looking.

          thinking outside the box.....

on 1861 there is a Jane Marsden born Soho 1845, parents William c1812 and Jane c1816, both old enough to have been married in 1838.

They're there on 1851 (but no Eliza)

Struggling to find them on 1841 which could mean they're not married and so aren't the right family of they're really badly transcribed.

What was Elizabeth's age on the marriage cert? If it said full age or 21 or whatever, I can't think she was born as late as 1838 and as most census records point to 1833, that's where I would be looking.

Did she have a father on the marriage cert?

              In 1851 there's a Louisa C(aroline?) Marsden 74 (b Soho) and her unmarried dau, Maria 40 (b St James) but I can't find them in 1841.

                Merry

Thank you for looking. I don't have the marriage cert, and had a quick trawl round likely parishes at the LMA today without success, so I think I will order the marriage cert and hope that her father's name helps me link her to my known Marsdens.

I've made a note of the ones you found, in case they fit in elsewhere.

Of course they could all be in the 1841 bits of the census that are missing!
