  • Kelly family

    I have a James Kelly married to a Margaret Kelly on the 1871 england census.
    Margaret's name is mistranscribed as Maryt.

    Class: RG12; Piece: 2861; Folio 113; Page 2;

    Can anybody see this family on the 1901 census?

    They both died in 1930 in Chester

        On top of that i can only find him in the 1871 census also.

        Class: RG10; Piece: 3722; Folio: 74; Page: 9;

        He's missing from the 1861, 81 and 91 census

              That does look promising as his child Thomas is of the right age.
              Why do you think he is down as Jasper?

              And do you reckon he may be down as Jasper on other census?

                    Keep coming back to this one for the 1881 but places of birth aren´t correct
                    RG11; Piece: 3554; Folio: 142; Page: 12
                    Same road as 1891 census.

                    When was Catherine born?

                      Catherine his sister was born in 1859 and it states she was born cheshire, there is no record of her being born in chester though according to chester records office.

                      Ill take a look at the census you have now

                        The 1881 census I found probably relates to this marriage from freeBMD
                        Marriages Sep 1877
                        Hopkins Margaret
                        Kelly James
                        Chester 8a 633

                        Do you know if Margaret was Margaret Hopkins?

                          Ive just took a look now and thats sort of stumped me.
                          When i looked at burials for overleigh cemetery in chester i came across another kelly family who lived in the same street as my Kelly's.
                          They could be related somehow.

                                In that case the 1881 looks good as James as listed as stepson of Bridget Hopkins - I presume this should be son-in-law.

                                  So this would be Margaret Hopkins with parents Martin and Bridge in the 1871 census

                                  same address as the 1881 census.

                                    scratch that, my James Kelly was born in 1855 and was still living with his parents Martin and Bridget Kelly in 1871.

                                    However my James did marry a lady named Margaret but it must have been a different margaret.
                                    The Margaret James married was born in 1857 and died in 1930.

                                      I think you need a birth certificate of one of the children to get Margaret's maiden name! I must admit it was getting rather confusing and I wondered if there was more than one family with similar names.
                                      Good luck!
