  • Birth registration query

    Hi

I want to buy a birth certificate for Catherine Hughes bc 1844 Cynwyd, Denbighshire. Now I have been told that Cynwyd is in fact in Merionethshire. therefore what registration district do I look under for her registration?

If possible I don't want to order fron the GRO, if there are several. as ordering from a local RO, I know they will check the registrations for her father's name, which I have.

thanks very much for any advice

What was her dad's name and when/where did she marry?

(I think you need to find her on as many records as possible before you attempt to get her birth cert - though isn't it Denbighshire that has a lot on early censuses missing :o:()

She married Henry Williams, got the cert today, 1865. Her father is David.

Found this on Family Search the other day - yes quite a lot missing 1841 Denbighshire.

I saw the 1871 census where she appears to say Cwnw?? (and ditto for the county of Denbighshire). This is the 1881 for them:

Henry WILLIAMS Head M Male 44 Coal Miner b Ruabon, Denbigh
Catherine WILLIAMS Wife M Female 37 b Ruabon, Merioneth,
Henry WILLIAMS Son Male 13 Coal Miner b Ruabon, Denbigh
David WILLIAMS Son Male 11 scholar b Ruabon, DenbighScholar
Robert D. WILLIAMS Son Male 1 b Ruabon, Denbigh

At least she has had a go at the "right" county! lol

If she WAS born in Cynwyd and that is the same place as Cynwyd Fechan & Fawr (not sure how big the ifs are??!), then those places are in the parish of Gwyddelwern which is in the registration district of Corwen from 1837 until 1935.

David is Catherine's father, labourer. On 81 she states Merionethshire, Ruabon and 71 transcribed Cynwyd, and it does look like that (but I could be wrong!!)

So you can see my confusion

And all I want is to buy a cert!!!

I take it she had died by 1891?
