  • How do I find wills?

    Can you please tell me how I go about finding and obtaining wills? I have looked on NA without success.
    I have these newspaper notifications


    JOSEPH AYRE, Deceased.
    Pursuant to an Act of Parliament made and passed in the'
    22nd and 23rd years of tbe reign of Her present
    Majesty, intituled " An Act to further amend the Law of
    Property, and to relieve Trustees."
    OTICB is hereby given, that all persons claiming
    debts or liabilities affecting the estate of Joseph
    Ayre, late of St. Mary Cray, in the county of Kent,
    Gentleman, who died on the 18th day of March, 1875*
    and whose will was proved on the 2nd day of July, 1&76,
    by Benjamin Joseph Ayre, the son of the said deceased,
    now of 22, Priory-road, South Lambeth, in the county of
    Surrey, Licensed Victualler, and William Holland, of tbe.
    Distillery, Deptford, in the said county of Kent, Distillery
    the executors named in the said will, are to send to the
    said executors, or to me, the undersigned, their Solicitor,
    particulars, in writing, of their claims against the estate
    of the said testator, on or before the 29th day of September,
    1875, at the expiration of which time the said executors
    will distribute the estate of the said testator among the
    parties entitled thereto; having regard to the claims of
    which they shall then have had notice.—Dated this 30th
    day of July, 1875.

    ELIZABETH SARAH AYRE (formerly
    ELIZABETH SARAH HARDING, VWddw), Deceased.
    Pursuant to an Act of Parliament made and passed in the
    22nd and 23rd years of the reign of Her present
    Majesty, intituled, " An Act to further amend the Law
    of Property, and to relieve Trustees."
    NOTICE is hereby given, that all persons claiming
    debts or liabilities affecting the estate of Elizabeth
    Sarah Ayre, wife of Joseph Ayre. late of Ravensbournevillas,
    Anglesea-road, St. Mary Cray, in the county of
    Kent, deceased (who died on the 23rd day -of December,
    1874, and whose will was proved on the. llth day of
    February,-1875, by her husband, Joseph Ayre, late-of St.
    Mary Cray aforesaid, Gentleman, deceased, the sole. exe«-
    cutor named in the said will, and which said Joseph Ayre
    died on the 18th day of March, 1875, and whose will was
    proved on the 2ud day of July, 1375, by Benjamin Joseph -
    Ayre, the son of-the said Joseph Ayre, .now of 22, Piioryroad,
    South Lambeth,.in the county of Surrey, Licensed',
    Vitualler, and William Holland, of the Distillery, Deptford,
    in the said county of Kent, Dist'ller, the executors named
    in the said will of the said Joseph Ayre, deceased, are to .
    send to the said Benjamin Joseph Ayre and William
    Holland, as the legal personal representatives of the said .
    Elizabeth Sarah Ayre, deceased, or to me, the undersigned,.
    as their Solicitor, particulars, in writing, of their claims
    against-the es ate of the said testatrix, on or before the.
    29th day of September, 1875, at the expiration of which

      This is from the official website


      "You must write to the Postal Searches and Copies Department at York (The Postal Searches & Copies Dept, York Probate Sub-Registry, 1st Floor, Castle Chambers, Clifford Street, York, YO1 9RG) giving the full name, address and date of death of the deceased, stating what you require and enclosing the appropriate fee."

      Fee is currently £5 payable to HMPG, they can take up to 5 weeks.

          I seem to remember somebody on GR saying ages ago that the Cardiff office is much quicker than York - anyone know if that's still the case?
