  • Upperthong / Burnlee Bottoms

Sorry, couldn't resist putting those in the title!

    1851 Yorkshire - Upperthong - Burnlee Bottoms
Thomas Bowskill Head Mar 43 Ag Lab Notts North Carlton
Mary Do Wife Mar 45 Yorkshire Kirkburton
Betty Do Daur 10 Scholar Do Do
Mary Ann Do Do 8 Do Do Almondbury
Elizth Do Do 6 Do Do Do
Lydia Bradshaw Visitor W 65 Do Kirkburton

The marriage is on the IGI 11 Feb 1830 Kirkburton, Yorks Thomas Bowskill and Mary Bradshaw, so I'm thinking Lydia is probably Mary's mother. (Thomas is a relative of mine, Mary isn't).

Can anybody find them in 1841? I would think they should be in either Kirkburton or Almondbury. On the 1861 Betty's birthplace is given as Holmfirth - does that mean that Kirkburton and Holmfirth are the same place, or is it a mistake? I'm not very knowledgable about Yorkshire geography!

Oh, yes, that must be them, thanks Elaine. I haven't come across Boldskin as a variant before. There are so many versions of this surname and new ones keep turning up! Thanks.

Yes, it goes quite well with the other words, doesn't it?

Others may snigger, but they don't necessarily post that they are sniggering.
