  • I have a Mystery can you help solve it please

I have a mystery/problem/worry, that I can't solve. Henry Thomas Monday was born 1 Sept 1859 in East Stonehouse
On the 1871 census he was living at 88 Hill Street Toxteth Park age 11

On the 1881 he was head of the house and a pawnbroker's assistant

He married under the name George Thomas Herny Monday occupation Pawnbroker at Walton on the Hill to Margaret Stevenson, 4 years later Margaret died and the last " sighting " of Henry/George was on her death certificate. As she was wife of George Henry Monday pawnbroker living in West Kirby On all 3 documents his name has changed
All the above infomation is taken from GRO certificates.

Now we can't find him anywhere, all his family was Mariners, Customs men, and even a Vice-Admeral we have thought that he may have "jumped " into the Mersey and not been found ???? that is the only thought we have left, what do you all think
    Regards
    Sheila

Are you sure the marriage is your Henry?

And when did Margaret die? Was he Henry or George on Margaret's death cert?

    I'll have a look around.

As an aside there is a John Monday living Toxteth Park 1901 with a daughter, Elvina.

Wonder if he could be Henry's brother.

                    Can't find Henry's mother after 1871 yet.

                      Possible death?
                      George Henry Munday [abt 1859] 1908 Jan-Feb-Mar Croydon 2a Page: 277

BUT there is a George Henry Munday b 1859 living in Mitcham in 1901 census, born in Southampton,so the death is probably him, as Mitcham is near Croydon.

Trying from another direction....There is an Elvina Newman in 1881 born 1835 Hull.

Maybe Elvina remarried. However I can't find them yet prior to that date....

Hi Libby Yes it is the Right chap as on his Marriage lines his father was Henry Wall Monday mariner deceased after Henry Wall M died ,Elvena remarried first the Samual Bernard in Jul/Sept 1881 and them secondly to Evan Jones in Oct/Dec 1900 both were Master Mariners. It is believed she died in 1907
Margaret died in 1886 aged 25 in Woodchurch on the Wirral on her death certificate he George Henry Monday . It is possible as his father was a Sailor, they were aboard ship when that 1861 census was taken Yes John was Henry's brother, and their mother maiden name was Elvena Leaf born Drypool ,her dad was a stevedore

The Monday I found - and I am not convinced - was living in Croydon, born in Southampton.

It looks like Henry Thomas just added George later because he fancied it!
