    Hello

I found a marriage between one of my rellies by the name of Elizabeth McQueen Broadfoot and Thomas.B.Robertson in Liverpool 1862.
Now Thomas was from Newton-Stewart in Wigtownshire Scotland and Elizabeth was from Whithorn in the same place.
Thomas was a Wine and Spirit merchant which would explain his moving from Liverpool to Scotland a fair bit.

I have found two births for the couple in Newton-Stewart

ROBERTSON, Male - B27/1/1871 - At 2 Victoria Street, Newton-Stewart, on the 27th ult., the wife of Mr Thos. B. Robertson, of a son.

    ROBERTSON, Female - B2/8/1878 - At 2 Victoria Place, Newton-Stewart, on the 2nd inst., ----T.B. Robertson, of a daughter

Now as they married in 1862 i would assume there should be more kids before and in between.

Can somebody please see if they can locate any as im having trouble finding them.

    Thankyou in advance

    Danny

      Thankyou Merry

Elizabeths mother was Mary ann Stewart which makes sense

I wonder where the McQueen came into it.

McQueen probably came into it about four generations back, if they are anything like my Scottish relatives!

Elizabeth McQueen Broadfoot was born c1838 and after a brief look on Scotlands People i can see that there is a marriage between a Broadfoot and a McQueen but im not able to see the full details yet.

The marriage took place sometime before she was born so i think that might be the link.

                Hiya Julie

Ive not tried Wallis as yet, ive just narrowed the marriage down and it took place in 1816 in Wigtownshire Scotland.
Not sure of first names yet though.
I will try and see if its on Hugh Wallis now

Scots Origins lets you search the IGI for a marriage on just surnames if you know the county and district, so putting that lot in and choosing Whithorn as the district comes up with Dunbar Broadfoot / Hugh McQueen, Whithorn, Wigtown, 30 Apr 1816.

Not sure if that fits with your tree, though? I thought we would be looking for a male Broadfoot marrying a female McQueen!

                    Kite

I do know that Elizabeth McQueen Broadfoot had a brother who named his son Hugh (only connection to Hugh McQueen) and i also assumed that it would be a marriage between a male Broadfoot and a female McQueen.

Is it normal for a mother or father to have put a middle name for their child after some man a relative married? I wouldnt have thought so.

Thankyou Kite for finding that out.

When my Scottish ancestors had exhausted all previous maiden names, they did sometimes start on a brother's wife's collection of maiden names! (Or a sister's husband, etc).

Don't forget that often children were given names of godparents and if that godparent's first name was already in use they might easily use the surname instead. eg godfather named John McQueen, John already used as name of older sibling so child given McQueen as middle name. And of course that godfather could also be "some man a relative married"
