    256 Royal St.

It looks like one of those lodging houses for the workers of a drapery company.

Where was the daughter actually born? If it was "there" then her employers might have taken a very dim view. Maybe they said she could keep her job if she got rid of the child??

I've had a look through some newspapers and 256 Regent Street is none other than Peter Robinson's, silk merchants. One of the famous Victorian shops which occupied Regent Street and Oxford Street. I would say that all these people listed at the address were the shop workers who lived on the premises.

I know the building was rebuilt at some time in the 19th/20th century so I do not know whether this picture is the old or new building. It may be worth researching to see if you can find a view from the outside of the premises.

Here's some more images, but again I don't know if this is the old or new building.

Thanks Val. I should clarify that they were c.1871 newspapers so the street numbering is accurate for that time.
