If it was really 1847 then she wouldn't have had the vote, and very likely nobody at the address would have it. Or is it 1947? I'm sure we've looked at this one before, though, haven't we? I remember the name!

            Hi Sue,

I'd say E.M. Fowkes too, I do know of some variants of this spelling, Fawkes (and if its anything like some neighbours we had with the same name) they prounounce it "Fawks".

            Hope it helps

If he married then she could be his wife's niece.

How many siblings did he have?

                Sorry Merry,
He had four siblings.3 sisters and a brother.Have not been able to trace anything on the brother as yet and one of the sisters moved to Canada and another died in 1923.

Thanks Julie think i am just going to have to wait for the 1911 census to come out before i get any further with this family.

If you send a really nice e-mail to whichever library/archive has the historic electoral rolls they may do a look up as you have an exact address and only one year to check. I've done this before.

My first thought was Fawkes - we had neighbours with this name when I was a child.

Is there a reason I can't see him on any census?
