November 1820 age ..... months James his son who was drowned off the coast of SYRIA 6th September 1841 aged 27yrs And of his son Elliot who died at sea 30th November 1847 aged 29 years Also the said Alexander BROADFOOT died 30th August 1858 aged 70 years

        Hi Danny
The info came from the BVRI. These records usually give dates of birth as well as dates of baptism.

I don't think that you mentioned the deaths at sea you were looking for were Scottish ones, Danny. There are marine deaths from 1855 onwards on Scotland's People (in the "minor records") - details on this page:

Ive just had a look on Scotlands people and i am able to see the three births of James,Elliot and Peter to Alexander Broadfoot and Margaret McGowan in Whithorn.
However i can only find a marriage for Alexander Broadfoot and a Margaret Gowan anywhere.
Do you think that these could be the same people but without the Mc?
