  • Silly Ancestry question

I'm looking for a baby in 1881. Walter Grant Pattison, born Lambeth March 1881.

When I try to search - even for Smiths in London - looking for children with 1881 birth dates yields zero results. Is there something I'm missing?

(Alternatively, could someone have a look at 1891, and tell me who his parents are, please?)

            Thanks Zoe and UJ!

But I feel as if I'm going nutty. I found Walter in 1881 on the Family Search site, but I cannot find him in the census in 1881 on Ancestry. And I can't see how to search for babies.

                aaah - with you now.

You have to do 1881 +/- 1 year I think

                  1881 ref - RG11; Piece: 625; Folio: 67; Page: 27

the age for Walter is blank. I wonder if that's a new glitch for ages that are recorded as days/weeks/months

                    Aargh!

It looks as if you have to ignore age to pick up babies.

It's not a new glitch, it's probably because the 1881 info was taken from Family Search and added to Ancestry rather than Ancestry doing their own version .........I think children recorded in months etc have not had their age accepted by the program on Ancestry. It's only the 1881 census that's like this, but has always had this glitch since Ancestry got the 1881 records.

Thank you, Merry. That makes perfect sense. And thank you Zoe & UJ for the extra info.

I am trying to do some research for a cousin and looking to see whether Emily Pattisson, born 1881 was a relative or a family friend. My aunt has a wonderful photo of Emily's sister Sybil's wedding in 1905 - at least that's who we think it is - but can't understand why such photos would be handed down unless Emily was family. Grant is a family name, so I had high hopes, but I think Walter is a red herring, alas.
