  • Am I related to John Godber??

Being a thespian I was most excited to receive an email from my rellie giving info on one of my g grandma's sisters.

She married someone called John Godber in 1901...in Codnor and Loscoe, Derbyshire and then they ran the Red Lion in Wath upon Dearne, Yorkshire.

Now, have just been googling and have discovered that THE John Godber, the playwright was born in 1956. Now, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that he was a direct descendant of my John Godber.

Does anyone fancy a dig about?!!!

As John Godber is still alive, can I suggest that any offers of help with researching his family are made direct to Mandy by pm, rather than details being posted on the forum.

Yes, thanks for that Elaine...PM is fine.

My great grandma was Lora/Laura Clarke, but when she married Mr Godber in 1901 she would have been Inger as it was her second marriage.

Lora (or Laura) Clarke married for the second time July 31 1901 to a John Godber in the parish church of Codnor and Loscoe. Laura and John ran the Red Lion pub Wath upon Dearne Yorkshire for some years. They sold it 1923. I don't know where they went from there.

The above information is what I've been given, along with some more unconnected stuff (juicy though it may be!)

I've just PM'd Mandy with his birth details from Ancestry, so there's no need to look for that.

No, but I thought it might be useful to have the occupations of his parents and grandparents.

                    Yes, the occupations certainly help!

Trying to track a marriage down, but not that sure that my skills with marriage searches are what they used to be!

Yes The partial index is just taken from FreeBMD, and only goes up to about 1920.

For years after that you have to trawl the Ancestry complete index quarter by quarter, which is a long job as you don't know the year.

I've just checked all 4 quarters of 1931 for his father's birth, but no luck.
