Thanks, I just found that. Wondering what kind of likely occupation a wire drawer could change to that would look like gold something mason?

                    When was the marriage?
Does he change his occupation on other censuses?

Perhaps he worked for a Goldsmith?

Marriage was 1852 - I havent thought of checking other censuses, what a dumbo! Off to look at 1851 now.

                              No.

I didn't know he existed until this afternoon!

                              OK, here is the gen.

Husband's gt gt gt granduncle James Anthony Higho married Sarah Jane Walker. Marriage not found.
In 1851 James and Sarah and their family in Shoreditch HO107/708/4 Folio: 26 Page: 14 with Sarah's unmarried sister Mary Ann Walker b. abt 1829

1846-1851 James Higho died. He was a juror at Old Bailey in 1846 and Sarah is a widow in 1851, but I haven't found a death for him.

1852 Sarah Higho, widow, 37, married 23-year-old John Bulford at St Leonard's Shoreditch, and gave father's details as Joseph Walker with this illegible occupation.

I've found Joseph in 1841 with a likely Mary as daughter. Wife in 1841 is also called Mary. Both J and Mary senior's ages are given as 50 though probably rounded down.

LN - I see the 1851 address for the Higho family is Old Street- which is the same as the 1841 for Joseph Walker. Have you tried searching through some of the pages on the 1851 to see if Joseph is living close by - maybe mistranscribed.

Gold wire drawing was done by hand by skilled men, who drew the gold through ever smaller holes until it was fine as hair.

(A Master Jeweller is expected to be able to do this BY HAND, without resorting to templates).
