  • 1893 Liverpool to New york - but what "Class"

I have Stephen Preen sailing from Liverpool to New York on the 9 Sept 1893 which I believe was the maiden voyage of the Cunard ship he was travelling on the "Lucania"
I have the image which shows his name on the list, but can anyone tell me which class he was travelling?
Stephen appears on page 15 no. 253 if that helps.

When I had access foolishly I didnt think about looking through the other pages to see if there was any other info.

    Any help greatly appreciated

      Thankyou Bridget

It was Ancestry I found him, I wonder if the other info is the same?

The info I have is name, Age 38, Male, Occ engine driver, Citizen of England, no. of baggage 3, Embarkation Liverpool.

There is also something in the Transit column but cant quite make out what it says.

Thanks again it is very much appreciated

Do you think "2nd Cabin 1" means the best of the 2nd class cabins?

The date of departure on Find My Past was 2 Sep ... for a voyage of 24 days.
He is listed as English, Single Male, Mech (Mechanic?)
But I can find no Transit column on this site.

I suppose mechanic and engine driver could be the same, they must be different documents though. I know from googling the ships name that her maiden voyage was Sept 2 1893 from Liverpool and arrived in Newyork Sept 9th.
I wonder where they got 24 days from. Maybe she was carrying on to somewhere else after New York.

Thanks for your help, it certainly gives me something to try to find out about.

In the transit column all it says is "pro sog* short for protracted sojourn. I have wandered through the other pages and sorry no further info is given that I can see..

                  Thanks for looking Northern Light.

I'm not very clued up yet on the jargon used on these lists. I dont suppose you know what that means do you (protracted sojourn)?
