    Hi all

Can someone please look at the occupation for Richard Rodger and confirm that its Teacher and not Carter.
Ancestry have it down as carter but after reading it im convinced its teacher.

If it is teacher they haven't crossed the t. But it doesn't look like C for carter - there's a carter further up the page.

Birthplace is v. difficult, but my guess would be Flintshire.

Im almost positive its not Carter and i cant come up with anything other than Teacher.

Flintshire looks promising, ill scour ancestry now.

        Thankyou Nell

Sorry, but to me it DOES look like Carter - if you compare the first "r" with that of Martha, on the same page, it is very similar.

Also, there are a number of railway workers on the same page and carters too - a very common occupation near a railway.

What is he doing in the next census?

(An outside possibility might be CASTER, but I don't really think that's as convincing as Carter).

I havent been able to locate him yet, i only came across him by looking for Ada who married my Platt.

I should mention that his last name is actually Rogers

Ive looked for a Richard Rogers/rodger in other census but none with the occupation or daughter Ada jump out at me.
Ada would only show up in 1871 census as by the 1891 she is married to Enoch Platt.

He could have changed his job and Ada could be with rellis or anything!

Theres this one but hes married to an Elizabeth and hes a general labourer....

I see what you mean, Danny. The C is nothing like any of the other Cs on that page. But its not like any other letter on that page or the next except ..... an L. I still think it says Carter but perhaps the ennumerator was about to write Labourer and changed it at the last minute - like you do??

I also think it says Flintshire - which is close to Birkenhead anyway.
