  • Mason and Allsop

I thought that had better start on my hubby's side of the tree as there isn't much on there.

I know that hubby's Grandfather was John Mason born c1919 in Nottingham and has siblings William and Nellie. I have John's parents as William Mason and Florence Allsop but not sure how?

Anyway want to help at all?

    Hallo Pippa

Can't see an Allsop-Mason marriage on Freebmd.

Do you know when grandfather died?

Unfortunately not. MILs seem to be very vague. I know his long term girlfriend Clara Osborn died in 1973.

Hmmm....Where are William and Nellie? Can you find out anothing more about them, Pippa? As finding their birth regs with the same mmn would probably confirm you def have the right family.

There are 6 Florence Allsops and 2 Florence Allsopps in Nottinghamshire in 1901.

I think you will have to invest in marriage cert to get fathers' names to go back further. I am sure there will be even more William Masons!

Ooh a Gladys - MIL didn't tell me about her. Clara was William's girlfriend from 1924ish (they had a child in 1926) and William lived with Clara a few doors away from Florence (who apparently was grumpy) so all the granchildren liked Clara more!

If they married 1907 there would probably have been several children between then and 1919.

Nellie could be Helen, Ellen, Eleanor, Elinor, Elena, Helena etc or just Nell or Nellie.
If you had William's birthplace/date you could perhaps search for him on WW1 records.

                                        Pippa

It's always easier to remember when someone tells you, rather than having to grope in your mind.

My Mum has done this a lot. When I found my uncle's wife (who died before I was born) was called Minnie Georgina, rather than Gina, she confirmed this, though it was the first I'd heard of Minnie at all!
