There is a mention of a Jabez Dodd in the 19th Century British Library newspapers

It is a very bad image and difficult to read but you can see the name Jabez Dodd, described as a soldier.

Doesn't help you find him in 1881!

Does it say soldier age 13? I can see he stole a bottle of gin and port wine and think the sentence was deferred but it is hard to read!

                .
Really difficult to read but I think it says soldier age 18.
Does that fit in with his age?

Elaine thats great lol..He did marry a Mary Littler and is on the 1901c without her but still down as married!

18 would fit in with his age..1863 + 18 = 1881..so its looking like he was away at war in 1881..thanks

                        No indeed!

My grandfather was Jeuel Jabez Gray and his eldest son was Jabez John Thomas Gray (John & Thomas being his two grandfathers) but I always called him "Uncle Jim". Of course his wife Gina was really Minnie Georgina. Rellies!

Nell...rellis! Ive really messed this family up now.

The dad was married twice and between the 2 wives had about 13 or 14 kids. Some died young but he named his new kids with the same names I think lol. Ive ended up with 2 Thomas under the wrong mother!

Better leave it Im goggle eyed lol..
